Description

83005-250 Camaro Steeroids with manual rack & pinion - Feel The Road! Camaro Steeroids - Feel The Road! Your classic Camaro deserves greatly enhanced steering control and improved steering feel. Stock recirculating ball steering is vague and unresponsive, especially "on center".
Steering racks offer much quicker ratios over the stock, barge-like 4 turn lock-to-lock steering. SteeroidsTM power rack and pinion conversions yield approximately 2.75 turns. Or choose a manual kit with a slower 3.5 turn ratio, better for drag racing. As an added benefit you get a lighter weight steering system - SteeroidsTM saves up to 25 lbs when compared to the stock steering system!
This is an entirely bolt on installation - absolutely no welding, cutting or drilling. Installs with basic hand tools in approximately 3 hours. Manual Steeroids kits are basically the exact same kit as the power, although the rack has been converted from a power rack into a manual rack by removing the hard lines, capping the ports and drilling the internal cylinder to prevent pressure build up. Manual Steeroids racks are between 3 and 3.5 turns lock to lock. If you have stock manual steering and are interested in converting to power, please look at our pumps, pulleys and brackets page. .
SteeroidsTM rack and pinion conversions are complete kits - all necessary parts are included with the exception of the power steering pump. Parts included: Rack and pinion, Adapter bracket (adapts rack to chassis through A-arm bolts), Tie rod ends (Self cleaning & lubricating, teflon lined), U-joint assembly, Power steering hoses (power kits only), All required fasteners (grade-8)
Ididit steering columns also available! Choose from Steel, Powder Coated, Chrome & Aluminum style columns!
Please Note: This kit has been engineered for Camaros and will only fit 1967-1969 Firebirds if you have a Chevy engine. It will not fit most Firebirds with Pontiac engines without extensive modification to kit and vehicle.

Tech Note: What is bump steer, and why is it important?
Bump steer is a term used to describe how suspension travel effects your steering alignment. As you drive over rough surfaces on the road, the suspension moves up and down. If your steering tie rods are not the correct length and at the correct angle, they will travel a different radius than the suspension, causing your alignment to toe in and toe out as the suspension travels up and down. If your car's alignment is changing while you are driving, this can cause the vehicle to become unsettled and darty, quick to wander and more apt to follow ruts. Steeroids® rack and pinion kits have been engineered to significantly reduce bump steer compared to stock. Our kits are adjustable to accommodate a variety of situations (including lowered vehicles), which actually makes your car not only steer better, but handle better!
